About Me
I grew up in Cedar Rapids where I graduated from Jefferson High School. I enjoyed playing my flute and piccolo in the marching band, pep band, and in concert band. I also ran on the track team and mostly competed in hurdle events. After high school I attended Iowa State University (GO CYCLONES!!!) and absolutely loved college. During my time at Iowa State I regularly attended football games, joined the Mountaineering and Climbing Club, and worked in a variety of labs as an undergraduate researcher. One of my favorite experiences was being able to study abroad at the University of Otago in New Zealand. Upon graduation I moved to the Twin Cities and began a PhD program in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics. I spent 6 years getting my PhD. During this time, I was introduced to teaching and I became hooked! Upon receiving my doctorate, I enrolled in an education program at Hamline University and received my teaching license. In the summer of 2020, my husband and I decided to move back down to Cedar Rapids and be back near my family. Shortly after I noticed an opening for a biology teacher at a small school district called Alburnett, just north of CR. After submitting my application and coming in for an interview, I knew that there was something very special about this community! I was so excited to be offered this position and I am looking forward to meeting all of you!
